Contraception: The Withdrawal Method

Coitus interruptus is one of the numerous contraceptive methods used to prevent pregnancy. It's also known as the withdrawal method, pulling out or onanism.

Coitus interruptus is conscious removal of the penis from the vagina just before ejaculation during sexual intercourse. Ejaculation is the ejection of semen from the penis. Semen is an exotic mixture of sperms and other secretive juices of the male reproductive system. Sperm is a little tiny organism that can cause fear and panic among teenagers or change the shape of a woman for at least 9 months.

Coitus interruptus is largely practised by adolescents and energetic young adults. It's not advisable among the aged since their capacity to withdraw dwindles with age.

Coitus interruptus prevents pregnancy up to 90 percent. Apart from abstinence, no contraceptive method prevents pregnancy by 100 percent.

This method is not 100 percent safe because pre-ejaculatory secretions may contain viable sperms. Pre-ejaculatory secretions include all forms of gelatinous leakage from the penis prior ejaculation. Well, these secretions may be small but may contain millions of sperms. For instance, a teaspoonful of semen contains Ghana population size of sperms. We're talking about 25 million here!

Nonetheless, 90 percent is a good point to risk with. The withdrawal method keeps sex natural because no barriers are required.

However, you must bear in mind that this method does not prevent Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Unnoticeable friction and cuts are common in sexual activities. And causative organism of various STDs can easily find a cut as a route to breach security barriers and cause mayhem to a body system.

Another prime problem of coitus interruptus is that, the man may lose control and withdrawal may be ill-timed or unsuccessful.

For successful withdrawal, the woman ought to concentrate and insist on withdrawal of the penis upon possible close-up to ejaculation.

I personally don't encourage withdrawal method because ejaculation is closely linked with orgasm, even though both could be mutually exclusive. And orgasm like sneezing is an involuntary action. I'm of the school of thought that involuntary actions should not be voluntarily interrupted! (Hehehee, that's my mind though).

However, the withdrawal, is the best contraceptive approach to an emergency sex. No afore-preparation is required.

From a professional point of view, it's not advisable to use only one contraceptive method. Two methods usually give a 100 percent results. The withdrawal, in my view, nails it with the calendar method which in itself is solidly 99 percent with a regular 28-day menstrual cycle.

Again, in society where the pressure of buying a condom is like buying a bomb, coitus interruptus comes in handy.

Until I bring you another contraceptive method, mention a name of a friend who practises THE WITHDRAWAL.
